Cumberland Council is pleased to announce that passenger numbers on Route 300 between Workington and Carlisle have increased by 20%.
In November 2024, after receiving £5 million funding from the Department for Transport’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), the council was able to introduce new bus routes and enhance the Route 300 service, providing a regular service every 30 minutes.
This enhanced service has not only improved convenience for passengers but has also resulted in a 20% increase in passenger numbers, demonstrating the positive impact of the changes.
Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient, and Connected Places, said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to see such a strong response to the improved Route 300. The increased frequency is clearly making a real difference to people’s daily lives—and the 20% rise in passenger numbers shows that getting people around Cumberland is proving both effective and essential.
“We remain committed to making public transport more accessible, reliable, and connected across the Cumberland area. If anyone would like to discuss local bus routes or provide feedback, I encourage you to get in touch with our team.”
