Construction work on the first of the four Millom Town Deal’s project is now underway.
Enabling works on the all-weather pitch got underway today (Monday 6 January) and will take around 12 weeks to complete.
Thomas Armstrong has been appointed by Cumberland Council to undertake the refurbishment of the existing all-weather pitch, supporting the delivery of the Town Deal’s Activating Community Health project.
The new leisure complex is one of four projects that make up the Millom Town Deal which secured £20.6m from the UK Government’s Town’s Fund alongside a further £8.7m in match funding.
David Savage, Chair of the Millom Town Deal Board, said:
“We can now look forward to the long awaited first spade in the ground, which is a significant milestone in transforming plans into real action.
“We have listened to the community feedback and by working in collaboration with our delivery partners we have accelerated this work package so we can bring the 3G pitch back into operational use.
The work on the Leisure Complex will proceed once the planning application has been approved. The Millom Town Deal Board and Cumberland Council remain committed to delivering the Town Deal projects for the benefit of the Millom and Haverigg communities.
Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer added:
“This will be an important step forward for the Millom Town Deal projects. It is great to see progress being made. Work continues on other parts of the Town Deal projects and momentum continues to build across this transformational programme.”
