How to set up your Direct Debit
There are different ways to set up a Direct Debit depending on the area your business is based:
- Allerdale area: set up Direct Debit
- Carlisle area: set up Direct Debit
- Copeland area: set up Direct Debit
You can pay over 12 months instead of 10, or however many months remain in the year.
You are also protected by the Direct Debit guarantee, which promises that you will get your money back straight away if anything goes wrong.
If you have business rates arrears
We will set instalments dividing the total balance outstanding by the number of months remaining in the financial year.

Other methods of payment
If you are unable to set up a Direct Debit there are other ways you can pay your business rate bill.
Pay online
To pay online you will need your:
- Business rates account number
- Debit or credit card
You will need to choose the online payment link for the area your business is based in:
Pay by bank transfer
You can also pay by bank transfer using the sort code and account number on the back of your bill.
Pay by telephone
You will need your card and your business rates account number when you call.

Pay at the Post Office or a PayPoint
You can pay bills at any Post Office or a PayPoint outlet by using the barcode on your bill.

You should report any changes swiftly so you do not get a backdated increase.
