Teaching Assistant (Early Years & SEN) (15 hours permanent plus other roles and temporary hours available)

‘Learning Together, Growing Together’

“We are a small family with big, caring hearts, striving to be the best that we can be, treating each other with respect and, knowing God is always with us on our learning journey.”  We are proud of our caring school where the personal development of pupils is a recognised strength.

Braithwaite CE Primary School has the exciting opportunity to welcome a new staff member (or members) to our team, ideally from the start of the new term in January 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

Teaching Assistant approx. 20-25 hours per week (Tues-Friday or Mon-Fri) Grade 5 SCP6, PCD5 (£25,183 per annum, pro rata, term time plus 1 week INSET & holiday entitlement – approx. £13.05 per hour).

This post could be a job share between an Early Years and KS2 SEN teaching assistant, but would work best with someone who was suitably qualified to undertake both roles.

We are seeking an excellent teaching assistant to join our dedicated and hard working team, working in our Early Years unit (supporting Nursery & Reception pupils) and also in our Key Stage 2 team (supporting SEN pupils in Y3-6).

There are 15 hours on a permanent contract; some additional hours are linked to EHCPs so are fixed term, though are likely to continue.

The successful candidate will need to be:
•  A qualified teaching assistant (ideally with both level 3 Early Years qualification and 5-11 qualification) with recent experience with pupils aged 3-5 and 7-11 years, including those with additional needs
•  Calm and positive in managing pupils’ behaviour
•  Dedicated to ensuring the well being and progress of all pupils
•  Highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and caring; able to work as part of a strong team under the direction of the Early Years / Key Stage 2 teaching staff
•  Sympathetic to the Christian ethos of our school and be committed to our aims and values.

We are a small school where staff tend to ‘multi-task’ so there are other posts that could ideally be combined with the TA role:

Lunch supervisor (3.5 hours per week Grade 3 SCP3-4),

Catering Assistant (Friday – 1.25 hours, Grade 3 SCP 3-4)

After School Club lead/assistant up to 10 hours per week (ideally Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday to 5:40pm, Grade 5 SCP6, PCD5 for leader or Grade 3 SCP3-4 for assistant) – see separate job descriptions for more details of these roles on our school website.

This is a rolling application process, due to the tight timescale with the end of term, so applications will be considered as they are received, with interviews planned from Tuesday 17th December and into the new term if required.

Application forms and further details about the post are available from the school website https://www.braithwaite.cumbria.sch.uk/quick-links/vacancies.html .

All applications must be on the Good Shepherd application form; CVs can not be accepted.

Visits to the school are welcome by prior arrangement with the Head of School, Laura Todhunter, or Executive Headteacher, Jo Laker, who can be contacted via email: l.todhunter@braithwaite.cumbria.sch.uk / j.laker@braithwaite.cumbria.sch.uk  or by phoning the school office on 017687 78356.

Please get in touch for an informal conversation or to find out more about the role(s) offered.

Braithwaite CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Enhanced DBS checks are required for the post as are excellent professional references.  The school is an academy as part of the ‘Good Shepherd Trust’.

The successful candidates’ employment would be with the Good Shepherd Trust although the terms and conditions would be comparable to Cumberland Council.

Please also take a look at our school website or Facebook page for more information.
