Apply for an advisory disabled parking bay

If you’re disabled and there is no acceptable off-street parking at your house or near to your house, you can apply for a disabled parking bay.

Who can apply

To qualify for a parking bay, you must:

  • own a car - or someone who lives with you must have one that is registered to the address of the applicant
  • qualify for or hold a Blue Badge
  • qualify for Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and score 8 or more on the ‘moving around’ indicator in the award or the higher rate mobility part of the Disability Living Allowance
  • have no adequate off-street parking at your house or available to you in the immediate area

Advisory parking bays will not be considered in disc zones or where double or single yellow lines are outside the property.

What you need to provide

To apply for a disabled parking bay, you must provide:

  • a copy of your vehicle registration that is registered to your address - or if the vehicle is owned by someone else who lives at your address and provides transport for you
  • a copy of your Blue Badge
  • evidence of any higher rate benefits, such as Personal Independence Payments (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance and a score of 8 or more on the ‘moving around’ indicator

If you’re over 65, you can also provide a letter of support from your GP.

If you have other special medical needs, you will need to state this in your application form.

If your application is successful

We will let you know when the parking bay will be marked out.

If you are unsuccessful and disagree with the decision

If someone else uses your parking bay

We cannot take action on someone else using your disabled parking bay because the bay is only advisory and is created by a Traffic Regulation Order.

If you no longer need your disabled bay

If a disabled parking bay is no longer needed let us know by making a parking enquiry using the online highways enquiry form.
