Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR) project

Objectives, overview and progress updates for the Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR) project.

Update for March 2025

We are pleased to provide you with the latest updates on the Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR) project, including key progress milestones, upcoming works, road closures, and new community initiatives.

Project Progress

The project continues to make progress, with notable achievements in February including:

  • the successful opening of Cummersdale Roundabout and Dalston Road
  • installing the bridge deck at Newby West Roundabout
  • re-commenced the work on the culvert on Ivegill Road
  • kerbing works have been completed at the South side Durdar Roundabout

There is lot more works planned for March in partnership with Galliford Try Infrastructure and our supply chain, including:

  • completion of the kerbs at Redcat Roundabout and beginning the surfacing works
  • completion of Fairy Beck culvert at the approach of Newby West Roundabout
  • working on the culvert on Ivegill Road
  • commencement of Durdar Roundabout surfacing works
  • initiation of this year’s earthworks season

Road closures (West to East):

The last remaining Utilities at Durdar Road / Ivegill Road will be completed in the next few weeks and after which we will be able to confirm when Ivegill Road will reopen.

We are working hard to have these roads reopened as soon as possible and understand the frustrations that our works can cause. Where possible, we complete as much of our works offline to reduce disruption to road users, however due to the nature of these particular works, full closures are unavoidable.

Fully signposted diversion routes are in place for all closures, and information regarding all traffic management associated with the project, including diversion routes can be found on our roadworks page. You can also keep up to date with weekly traffic management bulletins on the Carlisle Southern Link Road Facebook page.
