We are spending £2.6 million on transforming Carlisle Library into a state-of-the-art learning and community hub, designed to meet the evolving needs of the local community.

What the new library space will offer

The new modern library space will offer exciting features for visitors of all ages. You will be able to find:

• a vibrant children's zone where your little ones will love our bright, engaging space. With colourful furniture, interactive displays, and a wide selection of books and digital resources, this zone sparks creativity and a love for reading. They can enjoy storytelling sessions, fun crafts, or explore reading programmes
• a relaxing social space for catching up with friends or taking a break, our cosy social areas are perfect. With comfortable seating and a café-like vibe, it's an ideal spot to unwind, chat, or enjoy the friendly library atmosphere
• adult learning classrooms will offer everything you need, from digital literacy classes to hands-on workshops, helping you grow and succeed in your learning journey
• study spaces offering private desks, charging stations, and digital resources which will be perfect for students and professionals needing a focused environment
• The Jackson Collection with thousands of rare items dating back to the 1600s. Whether you're into local history, nature, or genealogy, there will be something for you

Adult Learning services have already been relocated to the Civic Centre in Carlisle, ensuring support for learners continues without disruption.
