Bursary scheme for 16 to 19 year olds

The Bursary Scheme provides financial support to help young people overcome specific barriers to participation so they can remain in education.

Who is eligible

You can get a bursary of up to £1,200 a year if you're between 16 and 19 years old and you are a student:

  • in care and care leavers
  • claiming Income Support or Universal Credit in their own name
  • in receipt of Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit, and Disability Living or Personal Independence Payments in their own name

Discretionary bursaries are also awarded by institutions to help with transport, meals, books and equipment.

Speak to your school, academy, college or training provider as they will have their own application process.
