Community Hubs

Our Community Hubs are designed to make accessing a variety of services more convenient, for example employment support and free school meals applications.

We are currently piloting the our Community Hubs to see if they meet the needs of the local area. They are a collaborative project between ourselves and and our partners.

Where are the Community Hubs

There are two pilot Community Hubs:

  • Workington Library, Vulcan's Lane, Workington, CA14 2ND (10 October; 31 October; 28 November, 19 December, and 16 January 2025 from 9am to 12noon)
  • Morton Community Centre, Wigton Road, Carlisle CA2 6JP; (every Friday from 2pm to 4:40pm)

What we offer

The Community Hub is designed to make accessing a variety of services more convenient.
New services available at specific times include:

  • Blue Badge applications
  • school clothing grants
  • free school meals applications
  • health and Wellbeing Support
  • adult learning courses
  • employment advice and support

Where Community Hubs are based in libraries, residents can still enjoy all the current services offered including:

  • book browsing and borrowing
  • access to computers
  • free Wi-Fi
  • Café West

Future plans and resident feedback

As the hub develops over the coming months, the range of services is expected to grow.
We’re keen to hear from you about how the hubs should evolve and what additional services
should be offered.

Your feedback will help shape the council’s long-term goal of rolling out similar hubs across
the entire Cumberland area.
