Review of polling districts and polling places

Every five years we are required to review our UK Parliamentary polling districts and polling places. Have your say on the existing scheme.

Why we need a review

Every five years we are required to review our UK Parliamentary polling districts and polling places.

The aim of the review is to assess the suitability of the current polling station configuration and making sure voters have reasonable facilities, taking into consideration:

  • access to polling stations, particularly for disabled residents
  • polling district boundaries
  • the location of polling stations
  • existing polling arrangements and suggested alternatives

Have your say

We would like you to make comments and suggestions for the current polling scheme.

The consultation will run from Monday 9 September to Monday 7 October 2024.

Polling district, polling place and polling station

Cumberland is divided by the council into polling districts, with polling places designated for each district.  They are described as:

  • a polling district is the geographical area created by sub-dividing an electoral area. All wards within Cumberland are divided into polling districts, which form the basis upon which the register of electors is produced. Unless there are special circumstances each parish must be in a separate polling district
  • a polling place is the designated area in which a polling station is located, such as a particular building
  • a polling station is the room or area within the polling place where the process of voting takes place, for example - a room within a community centre or school
