How we plan for emergencies

We are responsible for risk assessing and helping people plan for different emergencies, and supporting the public if an emergency affects the area.

Types of emergencies include:

  • severe weather
  • terrorism
  • helping people in distress or under threat during an emergency - for example, after a fire

Cumbria Prepared provides information on:

Who we work with

We work closely with partners to prepare for these events. You can find out more on the following websites:

We've also assessed the specific risks to our area with the Cumbria Resilience Forum.

Our role in an emergency

We're known as a 'category one responder'. This means we have key responsibilities; including providing advice and assistance to the public and sharing information with other partners. This includes:

  • risk assessments
  • business continuity management
  • emergency planning
  • maintaining public awareness and arrangements to warn, inform and advise the public
  • provision of advice and assistance to the commercial sector and voluntary organisations
  • co-operation and information sharing
