Trade and business waste and recycling

Upcoming changes on how to dispose of your waste, your duties and responsibilities as a business, and how to get a quote for trade waste collections.

How you dispose of your waste is changing on 31 March

Starting on Monday 31 March 2025, you must separate your waste into the following categories:

  • glass, metal, and plastic
  • cardboard and paper
  • food waste (even small amounts)

There is no minimum weight for food waste, so all businesses will need to separate it.

The new rules apply to all businesses, charities, and public organisations in England, including schools, restaurants, leisure, offices, and healthcare facilities, but small businesses with fewer than 10 FTE (full-time equivalent) employees are temporarily exempt until the 31 March 2027.

FTE stands for full-time equivalent. It counts the total hours worked by employees. For example, if full-time is 40 hours a week and you have four employees working 10 hours each, they add up to 1.0 FTE.

Business waste and what you are responsible for

Trade and business waste is any waste that comes from your business activities. If you work from home, waste from that part of your home is also business waste.

Find out what is included in business waste from GOV.UK

If you own a business you are responsible for making sure you deal with waste from your business properly.

You cannot take business waste to a Household Waste Recycling Centre as it may result in prosecution.

What we offer

We offer various collection methods so that we can provide a service that suits all businesses, at competitive rates.

Wheeled containers are available in a range of sizes. The containers are durable and the larger sizes come with lockable lids and brake mechanisms. The charge depends on the size of bin and number of collections.

Unlike many private waste management firms, we do not charge separately for container rental.

Wheeled containers are suitable for larger businesses and for pubs, restaurants and food outlets where wet or food waste is generated.
