National government advice on finding ways to save energy in your home
If you own a property in England or Wales you can get recommendations for home improvements that could make your property cheaper to heat and keep warm.

Apply for a grant to upgrade your boiler
You could get a grant to cover part of the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with a heat pump or biomass boiler through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Fossil fuel heating systems include:
- oil
- gas
- electric
- liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)

A warm spot offers a warm, welcoming space for people to visit this winter if they need it. They are run by a range of different organisations including churches, village halls, local councils and libraries. You can find warm spots by searching in our directory
Advice and support for fuel-poor households
The National Energy Action (NEA) is a national charity working to end fuel poverty in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, they offer advice and support to fuel-poor households.
NEA's Warm and Safe Homes Advice Service is a free support service providing advice to householders in England and Wales on their energy bills and keeping warm and safe in their home. They can also help with benefits advice and income maximisation.

Advice on keeping warm and saving money on household bills
Groundwork's Green Doctor scheme is available to UK residents to help them stay warm, stay well, and save money on household bills. They offer free, impartial advice on:
- tackling heat loss
- draughts
- damp
- mould issues
- help you take control of your bills
- saving energy and water
- keeping your home warm and dry
- accessing other services and initiatives that are available

Priority services register (PSR)
Free support available for those who need it.
Check with your energy supplier whether you qualify for this and also consider registering with your district network operator (for example - Northern Gas Networks or Electricity North West) who run their own PSRs. United Utilities has one too and you can also request water-saving freebies.
