Aspatria Library has been transformed to combine the local library and children's centre into a modern, fit-for-purpose building designed to meet the needs of residents.
The building will feature a fresh and contemporary library space, offering a wide range of services to patrons. Among its highlights is a fantastic new children’s library, designed to inspire and engage young readers. The library will also include a PC station, providing access to computers and internet for all visitors.
In addition to the library, the hub will house a state-of-the-art dedicated space for 0-5 years, supporting the councils commitment to children getting the best start in life. This facility will include a bright and inviting playroom, a dedicated ‘messy play’ area for creative activities, and a secure outdoor play space for children to enjoy.
It is also equipped with a multipurpose room available for use by partner organisations. This versatile space will support a variety of community programs, including Adult Learning courses, Health and Wellbeing sessions, and much more.
The library will be open to the public from Wednesday 7 August and a celebration event will be taking place week beginning 19 August for all the community to come along. In the meantime, residents can access a temporary library service at the children’s centre on Kings Street.
This project has been made possible through the support of Cumberland Council and the Allerdale Local Committee. The construction and renovation work have been expertly carried out by Roland Hill.
Cllr Anne Quilter, Executive Member of Vibrant and Healthy Places for Cumberland Council, said;
