How to apply or renew your Blue Badge, your responsibilities and how to replace a lost or stolen badge.

Eligibility

You may qualify for a Blue Badge without your application being assessed if you receive a higher rate benefit.

If you are applying without one of the benefits, then your application will need to be assessed.

When your application doesn’t need to be assessed

You will be automatically given a Blue Badge without an assessment if you can provide one of the following with evidence:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) award 8 or more points in the moving around activity of the mobility component
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) award 10 points in the planning and following a journey activity on the grounds of overwhelming psychological distress
  • War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement (WPMS) lump sum benefit under the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces (Compensation) Scheme within tariff levels 1 to 8
  • if you’re registered severely sight impaired

When your application needs to be assessed

You’ll be asked to provide extra information if you do not receive benefits.

Supporting information can include:

  • a letter of diagnosis, as up-to-date as possible
  • evidence of the progression of the condition over time
  • confirmation of ongoing treatments or clinic attendances, or referral
  • evidence of prescribed medication relevant to the condition
  • evidence of specialise consultations or a referral
  • patient summary or Summary Care Records
  • education Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
  • care plans from social care teams
  • social housing letters or assessment reports from a local authority
  • letters from other professionals involved in your care
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) decision letters
  • evidence of other benefits received
