Up to £12 million of schemes are being invested in Maryport on projects to boost the economy, create important new facilities and make it an even better place to live and visit.

The transformation of Maryport is underway to make it an even better place to live and visit. There are £12 million of schemes taking place, which are funded by the Government, Historic England and Cumberland Council.

All schemes are due to be complete by the end of March 2025

Christ Church

One of Maryport’s most prominent and historic landmarks, is going to become the new Maritime Museum.

Love Maryport Living

The focus of the Love Maryport Living initiative is to kickstart the revitalisation of unoccupied spaces above shops encouraging more people to live, socialise and spend in the town.

Maryport Public Toilets

The public toilets on Irish Street, close to the popular harbourside, have been transformed thanks to local artist Alan Roper.

Public realm

From highway improvements, to new wayfinding signage, as well as a new pocket park - some great changes have been made to Maryport’s public realm.

Shipping Brow Gallery

Shipping Brow Gallery is a new attraction which will display works of art which have never before been seen in public.

The Boardwalk

The Boardwalk may be one of the smallest regeneration projects but it’s received a huge positive response.

The Carlton

This former bank and cinema, in one of the town’s most prominent locations, will become a centre for arts, culture and community.

The Shopfront Scheme

Shopfronts have been restored to their former glory, with new designs, new windows and fresh paintwork.

The Town Hall

This Georgian building, which began its life as the Cumberland Union Bank, has been brought back to life as Cumberland Council offices and a community hub.

Wave, Harbourside and The Prom

Locals and visitors played their part in the creation of these £5 million+ investment plans, with the money being provided by the Government.
