Items we will take
We take many items including some hazardous waste.
Items include:
- car batteries
- household batteries
- bicycles, for repair and re-use
- books
- cans and tins
- cardboard
- CD's and DVD's
- chemicals, such as weedkiller, paint stripper or oil based paint - on arrival report to the site staff with these items
- clothes and textiles
- fluorescent tubes
- fridges and freezers
- furniture including upholstered seating, sofas, office chairs, bean bags, mattresses, carpets and rugs
- garden waste
- gas bottles
- general household waste
- glass
- hardcore and rubble
- large appliances, such as washing machines and ovens
- newspapers and magazines
- paint and dry empty metal paint cans
- plastics, such as bottles, tubs and trays
- scrap metal
- small appliances, such as microwaves, toasters, vacuum cleaners or battery powered toys
- TV's and monitors
- tyres
- used engine oil
- wood and timber
Items we don't take
- asbestos
- trade waste
- clinical waste
- acetylene
- boat flares
- car air bags
- fireworks
Find out if you need permit to visit a HWRC
If you are driving a larger vehicle such as a van or utility vehicle or use a large double axle trailer you will need to apply for a HWRC Permit
If you're walking to one of our sites with your waste, you'll need a pedestrian permit so we can keep you safe.

Other HWRCs across Cumbria
You can use any HWRC in Cumbria, wherever you live - for example if you live in Keswick your nearest recycling centre might be at Flusco, near Penrith in the Westmorland and Furness Council area.
