Music for schools

Information about the Music for Schools offer including classroom learning, specialist teaching, the music curriculum and instrument hire.

Classroom Instrumental Learning (CIL)

Through whole-class teaching you can ensure that every child has an opportunity to learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together in class time.

Our classroom instrumental learning (CIL) programme is designed to spark children’s musical curiosity through:

  • playing
  • singing
  • listening
  • creating
  • performing

Delivery details

This is a weekly programme.

Lesson length

One session is a minimum of 60 minutes (45 minutes per hour guaranteed delivery time to allow for instrument set-up, tuning and packing away).

One class

Minimum Delivery

One year providing 33 sessions.

One-term programmes may also be considered subject to Music Service timetabling constraints.

Cost

£57 per session to each primary school for one year group (mixed year groups for small schools)

Additional classes at a cost of £67 per session.

These programmes are usually subsidised through the Music Hub fund.

Further information on Hub subscription packages from September 2024, will be made available once the Arts Council England and DfE has confirmed funding for 2024 to 2025 to the Hub Lead Organisation in July 2024.

We anticipate one term (ten weeks) of CIL will be offered free to each primary school for one year group (mixed year groups for small schools) and access to curriculum resources Charanga and CPD.

Additional classes will not be subsidised by the Music Hub grant.
