Cocker Bridge has reopened to traffic

The Cocker Bridge in Cockermouth has reopened to traffic this morning (Friday 15 December). The bridge was closed to vehicles following the partial collapse of the adjacent Old Courthouse building.

Christmas collection dates!

Cumberland Council is updating residents about the Christmas collection dates to ensure a smooth waste management process during this festive time. The council is advising residents that in all areas of Cumberland, there will be no waste and kerbside recycling collections on Christmas Day (Monday 25 December), Boxing Day (Tuesday 26 December) and New Year’s Day (Monday 1 January).

Cocker Bridge set to reopen to traffic

The Cocker Bridge in Cockermouth is set to reopen to traffic later this week. Once reopened, it will provide two-way traffic and will be managed by traffic lights. It will provide full access over the bridge which currently is restricted to pedestrians only.

Taste Cumbria festival gives Cockermouth a Christmas boost

Thousands of people ate, drank, shopped, sang and watched the experts in action this weekend as Taste Cumbria Christmas came back to Cockermouth. The festival took place in the heart of the town, on Main Street and Market Place, where there were producers’ stalls, live music marquees, the Demo Stage and children’s activities, alongside street theatre and hot food and drink.

Business and Community groups. Apply for grants

Apply now for new Cumberland Council business and community grants

Cumberland Council is encouraging local businesses, community groups and organisations to apply for grants schemes that will provide £1.4 million to the local economy. The council has recently received their annual allocation from the Government for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (this also includes the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF)).
