Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

The Statement of Community Involvement sets out the council’s policy for engaging the community and stakeholders in the planning process including the preparation and review of the Local Plan and the determination of planning applications.

A new Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) was adopted by the Council on 18th February 2025.

This document sets out how the Council will engage the community and stakeholders in the planning process. It outlines when and how you can participate in planning processes including:

  • in the development of planning policy
  • engaging with Planning applications
  • participating in neighbourhood planning
  • reporting unauthorised development

A public consultation on a draft version of the Statement of Community Involvement took place between 13th September and 25th October 2024. A summary of the comments received can be found in the Consultation Statement below; the Consultation Statement also provides the Council’s response to the comments received and identifies where amendments have been made to the document based on the feedback received.

Any person with sufficient interest in the decision to adopt the Statement of Community Involvement may apply to the High Court for permission to apply for judicial review of the decision. Any such application must be made promptly and no later than three months after the date on which the SPD was adopted.
